Prince Harry Explains the Habit of His That Confuses Meghan Markle

Part of being married means learning to love (or at least, learning to live with) your partner's odd habits-even if you're Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

In the new BBC Documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, Prince Harry revealed that Meghan is learning to deal with his habit of turning off the lights, which he reportedly picked up from his father, Prince Charles.

"He's a stickler for turning off the lights," Harry says in the documentary, per The Mirror. "And that's now something I'm obsessed with as well, which is insane because actually my wife goes, 'Well why turn off the lights? You know it's dark.' ”

But for Harry, this small habit is about doing his part for the planet. "I go, 'We only need one light, we don't need, like, six,' and all of a sudden it becomes a habit and those small habit changes he's making, every single person can do. And I think that's one of the key lessons certainly that I felt that Charles taught us.”

And Meghan isn't the only one learning to live with her husband's affinity for hanging out in the dark: Apparently, the exact same thing is going on in Prince William and Kate Middleton's corner of the palace. “I know I've got serious OCD on light switches now, which is terrible,” William responded to his brother, per The Mirror.

Prince Charles has historically been a champion for the environment and has clearly instilled those values in both of his sons. In the interview, Harry also admitted that when he was younger, he used to get teased at school for walking around and picking up trash. “It's like I've literally done this because I've been programmed to do it, because my father did it,” he said. “Actually, we should all be doing it.”

Of course, considering Prince Harry is the type of husband who's willing to dish out impromptu public back rubs and propose toasts with water instead of wine in solidarity with his pregnant wife, we'd say that switching off a light or two-especially for the sake of the environment-sounds like a pretty OK habit for the Duchess of Sussex to have to deal with.
